HOW DO I KNOW IT’S GENUINE?

In the accepted terminology of Antique dealers and collectors, there are several words or expressions which can cause some confusion or question in the minds of the inexperienced. Amongst these, phrases such as ‘original/genuine’ , ‘a good copy’, ‘late Victorian’, etc spring to mind.

The honest dealer should be able to explain any of these terms – not least by being able to specify the date of a particular piece.
Unfortunately, there are no golden rules to guide the inexperienced Antiques buyer. Experience and confidence will be gained only by seeing the genuine item.
